Sunglasses

  Hello!

I hope you've had a lovely week, its looking like the weather will be good for the weekend - something to look forward to!

I'm in the middle of making a wedding card for my nephew and his wife to be, so I won't hang around waffling for once!

 

Just in time for the sunny weekend we've been promised is Miri's fun Daring Cardmakers challenge:

I wear my sunglasses at night

This week we want to see (sun-) glasses on your card!

Maybe you’ll find a stamp, a die cut or some patterned paper?! Or you cut out your own glasses or you add some doodled glasses to a stamped person or creature?

(or if you’re stuck on ideas use a drinking glass instead 😉)

I thought I'd have to resort to making my own, or doing a google image search until I remembered some sets of 'buttons' I bought years ago and mostly hadn't found a reason to use!  You see, it is worth keeping all that 'might come in useful one day' stuff!

For the wavy shapes I used a Spellbinders die set and a piece of inky background I found when I was looking for something else (if I'd found it last week I'd probably have used it for Sgabneez's challenge!)

The big sun is also cut using a Spellbinders set.  From the button set I chose the sunglasses, sun lotion and sun hat shapes and gathered them in the corner

The sentiment was cut using a Sizzix set - its a bit fiddly but cute.

To finish it off I made some bunting using a piece of red and white bakers' twine and flag shapes hand cut from a scrap of card inked with nice bright colours

I've quite a bit to get on with so no waffle this week - I'm getting straight to my card for Shabneez's lovely challenge to The Daring Cardmakers!

It's All In The Background 

This week I'd like you to make your background the star of your creation - get out those paints, sprays, pastes or even inks and watercolours to wow us with your masterpieces!

I did struggle with my ideas this week - in fact, this was my 4th attempt - which is bad, even for me!  Getting carried away and adding too much 'stuff', masking tape tearing away some of the inky layers, mousse seeping under the stencil in an irredeemable way.....You get the picture?

So I decided to go ultra simple!

I made my own little stencil by just hand-cutting a couple of wibbly rectangle shapes out from a piece of scrap card.

I stencilled one by one, first layer with ink, top layer with embellishing mousse so that the finished shapes had a deep colour and a slight sheen.  I used quite bright colours for a Summery feel.

'Birthday' is die cut from black card and the other two words are small decal stickers.  

To complete I added a few tiny hearts punched from one of my failed background attempts that had the same green colour.

 

What makes me happy about this card design is how easy it will be to reuse and get different looks suitable for males/females and different occasions too!

July Elemental Inspiration Challenge

 

Hello!

It's been the kind of week where finding time to do any 'noisy' crafting tasks has been tricky because OH has had so many meetings and video calls! Whilst he always uses a headset for these, my electric die-cutter is still a bit invasive so I'm only able to use my hand operated mini cutter - which of course only cuts smaller dies.

Anyway, I shouldn't moan - if I were better organised there probably wouldn't be any problem at all 😉

This week my turn to set the monthly Elemental Challenge for the Daring Cardmakers came along:

Its the first Friday of the month so time for our

 July Elemental Inspiration Challenge

I thought I'd have a go at creating my own picture this time, so gathered together a host of things to use.  There's no theme, its just a rather random assortment of crafting bits an bobs, but I hope you will find some inspiration to kick-start your creativity!
Just choose at least three elements from the picture to use when you make your card.

 Bearing in mind the things in the photo are all my own, it was actually quite hard to decide what to use for my card!

In the end I used the stencil, tissue paper, bottles flowers and a frame

I started by die cutting the bottle shapes and colouring them with blue inks. Once dry I added a layer of Glossy Accents to each and left them to dry overnight. Using my favourite stencil and adding a few shapes to the corners of the card base using a pale pink Tonic mousse. 

From the tissue paper I tore a piece to adhere across the card and added the Scribble Flower frame (Tonic Studios) which I'd cut from gold card, along with a few spare leaves

Next I die cut some lily of the valley flowers (Joanna Sheen) and made a few pink roses 

Once the bottles were dried I arranged all the bits and glued them in place. finishing with a handmade decal sticker sentiment
