I love digital crafting!  All my favourite Funky Hand papers are at my fingertips and I never run out!
And then as I don't do much stamping digi images are perfect for me - they are always there for those occasions when I need to use something like that!  The best part, I think is having the ability to resize according to your whim!

I needed a change from all those Cword cards so I've decorated a canvas using the Funky Hand and Tiddly Inks products.  Not only was it was great fun, but it helped kick-start my ailing crafty mojo!

From Tiddly Inks I used "Our Village" image from the "Harmony at Home"  digital set

Game On!

Woke up to a very frosty scene out there - the first frosty morning this Winter, I guess that means Christmas is coming and that I should stop fiddyfaddying about and actually get some presents bought.  I think that the top and bottom of it is that for some reason I just can't be bothered with it this year.
I'm going to have to give myself a good talking to and a good old shake and make an effort - and I really do think it's going to take a big effort....

Fun and Games

I'd like you to make a card which also has a little extra element of fun :

*It could include a game for the recipient to play

*Or you could put moving things on your card such as flapping wings or wheels that really work

*Or it can bee an advent calendar card with doors and windows  to open...

The team have had a lot of fun with this one and we hope our ideas will inspire you to join in - we're looking forward to seeing what you make.

I think maybe it felt a bit too close for comfort to getting back into teachery ways!  Eventually I went with a Christmas variation on "Pin the Tail on the Donkey"
The pin is actually a lump of blu-tack, but my brain hurt too much to think of anything better to use on a card,

It's a big 8" square card so plenty of room to plonk that fluffy nose in the "wrong" place

 * I've used the Funky Hand "Twelve Crafters Crafting" CD from last year for the image and the papers. The blue background paper is from the "Wintry Magic" section and the other designs are all from the "Merry Christmas" set. 
The "Workspace" facility on these Papercraft Factory cds is brilliant!  
I printed the snowflake paper and the reindeer border all in one go.  All you do is select the paper and send it to the workspace, then drag the images over, resizing and putting into the places you want to use then before hitting the print button. 
I used the ready coloured version for the border design, but the outline version to make the large reindeer so that I could paper-piece him together in several of the designs.

 

I was going to make a pompom for the nose, but I don't have any red wool, so I hunted around for an alternative.  Using a Cuttlebug Quilled flower die and some felt was just an experiment, but it worked perfectly - and had the added benefit of producing a flat-backed  "pompom"

A nice easy card and not a bad idea for something to make with the kids.  If you don't have digi images that would work, try checking the web for suitable free colouring pages - then they can do the colouring too

Using the leftovers

I cut yesterdays wonky trees from a few different papers but I didn't cut any extra mats for them.  So here's how I've been using up all those extra trees.

I've been getting very painty, inky and sticky over the last few days - it's all to do with this:

It's all very exciting!  The Funkettes have all been busy getting some fab projects ready to share at the weekend - and I'm sure the TiddlyInkettes have been doing the same.  I can't wait to see what the two teams have made using both sets of products - and there will be LOADS to see!  And PRIZES too!

Trees, Trees....

 Last week sometime I shared a couple of cards made using the Wonky Trees Border template I made too.  For those first cards I cut a mat slightly bigger than the trees and cut it in a darker paper, adding the trees cut from patterned paper.  For these cards, I just cut the border shape to be the same size as the little trees - now OK that's a tiny little detail, but I think I prefect this cleaner, simpler look - I also left off the snowflakes in the background, leaving the card just plain white - and I like that better too.
It's funny how just small differences can change the look of a card so much.  Mind you, I also like the colours of these papers better too, and that definitely helps!

My card today is one I've made using the November LO over on The Sketch File.  We're into the last week for this sketch as December is just around the corner

I wish now that I hadn't used the banner in this diagonal fashion - it would have looked better either completely straight, or with just a gentle curve.  Though maybe then the word would have been trickier to fit in!

Twinkle Twinkle

 Obviously a great subject for Christmas cards,but easily adapted for lots of other occasions.  Every week our design team create a whole galaxy (hahaha) of beautiful cards, and this week is not exception - visit our blog HERE to see this week's starry selection
When ideas fail for "boy" birthday cards it's usually to stars that I turn to fill up the scary white space!

I did make a Christmas card  - got to keep filling up that box!    I didn't use Christmas papers though
It was a bit of a rush job - borrowing an idea I saw on the Clear And Simple phone App, actually.  I don't think I was in a very creative frame of mind yesterday afternoon - it was the first time I'd even sat at mu desk all week and I'm not sue I was properly awake tbh!

Anyway, here's my card

There are several layers to this, but I don't think it's really come off - maybe I'll have another go and see if I can get a better effect with a bit of tweaking!

14x14 smooth white card, plus extra for the upper layer
Papers:MME Lime Twist 6x6 (papers from 2 of the pads are used)
Glitter card (Best Creations)' Turquoise and Red
Narrow red ric-rac braid, Red and White gingham ribbon

Dies: Marianne Star (from bauble and star set)
Punch: EK Success tiny stars - circle of 6 stars

I cut the star first in plain papers from the MME pads, but I wanted a glittered backing piece to show through all the holes, but unfortunately these dies don't have a plain shape to do that with easily Anyhooo.....this Glitter card from Best Creations (I get it from Craftz Boutique) is fantastic as there are lots of colours and although it's really, really glittery there is none of that glitter shedding you get with most glitter cards.  However, cutting intricate dies is very tricky and not always particularly successful - the card has a sort of plasticised covering and backing and some dies just don't cut through.   But in this case I was happy that the die didn't cut all the way though - before removing it from the die I glued a star cut from scrap paper to the back, thus retaining all the little pieces in place and giving me a matching star without the filigree pattern. ta-dah!

Shape Shifting

Having spent the last couple of days in bed feeling poorly I've  missed a couple of days blogging, so this is a card I made at the end of last week.  I'm not overly keen on it - I think the colours of the background and the snowflake wreath are all too wishy-washy and indistinct, but I thought I'd share it anyway.  
The reason for sharing it is that I'd had that turquoise coloured wreath die cut lying on my desk for a while when I happened on the thought that as it was such an intricate "stretchy" shape that it might just stretch into an oval shape instead of it's intended circle.
So I got out the Spellbinders plain ovals die set and hey presto!  it fits!  So there you go - one die 2 shapes (at least ;)) to use it for.....I wonder if it would twist into a square....

Wonky Trees Border

The cards I'm blogging today are made with another of the Craft Robo templates I made last week.  It's a border template using my favourite "Wonky" Trees.  They come out every year in some giuise or other because they are so easy to do!
Usually I just use whatever scraps I have around - I stick paper scraps to card scraps and then cut out the tree shapes freehand with scissors and add trunks with scraps of coloured or glitter card,
This is a bit more "organised" but I'm fairly happy with how the idea turned out.  I'm not sure Mr Robo would be too keen on cutting glitter card - and the carrier sheets definitely wouldn't like it so I just hand-cut a curvy strip to highlight the border strip.

I mentioned the other day that I'd been diverted away from actually making Cword cards by playing around with new template ideas for cutting on my Craft Robo.  It's not my fault, of course  - noooo....it's the Bad Fairy of Procrastination, AKA the BFoP. 
Just in case you've not met her before, she's the naughty little minx who stays here from time to time.  Eventually, I boot her out and she goes to stay with Kaz, or one of my other crafty friends.  Beware!  she's always on the lookout for new places to hang out.
Well, this time I decided that my day or so of having her in residence was going to be more fruitful than most and have actually used a couple of the templates I made, At which point she pouted in a less than fairy-like way, stamped her little foot, twizzled her wand and left.

I rather like this one, and it's my favourite sort of Cword card; simple to put together, but eye-catching and effective.  Or is that "blowing my own trumpet"?

The letters hang on silver thread and it was the BFoP's parting shot to make the card as difficult as possible to photograph or have standing up without those letters twirling round and facing the wrong way.  So I think I might pop a smidge of glue behind them to keep them in place after all!

I'm going to make more of these in different colours, and maybe do a "joy" version as well - only three letters in that so even quicker hehe!

Just Because

This week it's Gez's turn to set the challenge for the Daring Cardmakers and she's asked for cards with a "Just Because" theme, saying:

I'm not sure why, but I fancied a go at finding my "inner cute"  hehe.  When I wander around the blogs I follow, I see lots of sweet and cute images and although they aren't really "my thing" I can see their appeal both to the person making the cards and the people who receive them. Anyway, I don't do colouring and I don't do cutesy "twee" animals, and I have a particular hatred for weird shaped faces with no mouths.....It's a blinking good job we're not all the same, isn't it?  How utterly boring that would be!

Here is my version of "cute"

 I used a free colouring page found on the net to create a template.  Originally the little girl was face-on and carrying a flower.  I re-drew the hair and feet so that she'd be facing away, and although I had originally wanted to use a flower I changed my mind when I decided to use this beautiful quotation and thought balloons worked well for the idea of sending wishes.

 I'm really bad at one-layer cards - I see the beautiful one layers that my stamping friends make and am in awe - but even if I could do them, I just know I'd never be able to stop myself sticking those bits of ribbon etc on top!  I'm ju7st a "Stick Stuff On! sort of crafter and I don't think there'll be any change in that hehe!
What I really like about this card is the mix of the direct to paper sentiment and the all the dimension I get by using my Craft Robo to cut the layers for the image.  I had planned to leave it that way, but then realised that the extra texture of a little bit of ribbon would give an extra "lift"
Anyway, that's my excuse and I'm Sticking to it! hahaha, pardon the pun!

Through the Round Window

You know when you make something and you like some bits of it but not others?  These two I made at the weekend fall into that category.  I like the circle with the cut up Snowflake Wreath.  I like the trees overlapping the circle - but I'm not so sure about the whole - maybe it's the colours of  the trees and it would have been better keeping to blue, white and silver tones for the whole.  Or maybe the trees would have been better cut in glittery stuff.  And then there's the background - I think I should have used another layer in there too.  I wonder if a drawn-in stitched edge would pull it all together?

Lounge Lizard?

Just for a change it's not a Cword card today - shocking, what? :o
The latest set of Crafty Templates are out now, and this is one of the DT cards I made this time.  I did think about giving this guy a party hat and making his tongue into one of those party whistles with a feather on the end - I can't remember what they are called, but you get my drift.  Ok so that's a lie and I've only just thought of it right now...but...
It's another card with one of those "matchbox cover" hinge type things to make him stand away from the card.

Craft Robo Getting in on the Act

Still in the "same but different" groove of Memory Box snowflakes and Spellbinders Baubles but now the Craft Robo has muscled it's way in!
Different baubles this time - I'd forgotten I had these ones, they're actually from a set called "Holiday Tags".  Quicker to assemble as there's a hole for the thread to go through.

Craft Robo to cut the "Christmas" Header Tabs

I do tend to get carried away and waste a lot of time thinking up and making templates to use with my Craft Robo.  This one worked out quite well I think - it's easy to set the machine away cutting the tab top while I get on die-cutting.  It means the colour background for the snowflakes and the sentiment are all in one piece.

Not Santa Baby but....

...Santa Cupcake!

This is one of my DT projects for the new Crafty Templates Kit which should be out soon.  OK so it wasn't really a Christmas themed template, but I couldn't resist making the "Moustache Cupcake" into a Santa Cupcake.  Probably because I'm so immersed in making Cword cards just now that every card HAS to be one.  I still haven't counted how many are in the "done" box as I'm sure I'll be disappointed that although I feel I've made a lot there aren't nearly as many there I want there to be!

More Baubles

This Starry border die is sooooo pretty, and I was looking for a way to use it on my "standard" white Christmas Card.
 I'm way too lazy to be bothering with inserts for all the cards I send, so I print up a load with the greeting already inside and then I get to use the rest of the Royal Mail's "full" measly depth allowance (for regular postage) to add a bit of embellishing. Lazy, and mean into the bargain!
If I used coloured cards I couldn't really do the printing inside, you see....
Anyway, the result of my pondering was adding a coloured border beneath the white die cut - and then I thought maybe it would look more stylish if I left a narrow stripe of the coloured card showing above the die cut so I made a second one to try it out.
Looking at them on screen I'm still not sure which I like best, actually it probably doesn't make much difference  - but I do like the design and think it looks effective without being too complicated or time consuming to make.  The thread is glued between two bauble layers and the other end is attached under the die cut so it can swing free.

I'm not sure how the others work on their card ideas, but after I've seen what the dare is I usually mull it over in the back of my mind for a few days.  Ever so rarely, an idea pops into my head straight-away, but usually an idea will gradually work it's way out over a few days.  This time it was more like dragging it out kicking and screaming through a prickly hedge backwards!

I was desperately looking through photos on the pc, hoping an idea to bop me on the head when I came across last year's Christmas photos and thought "hmmm, I wonder...." Coupled with a newly arrive box of delights from Creative Treasures (do check out the Christmas Boutique - it's gorgeous!) the idea was formed - making it nearly had me demented and it very nearly went in the bin, but in the end I came up with this

 The photo was printed on glossy photo card and adhered to the smooth white card blank
I didn't want the snowflake wreath to be full size, so I cut sections out to use around the red glitter card circle

I quite like this design - I think it works better than using 2 tiny baubles as in the one I blogged yesterday.
It's a nice, fairly quick assembly job, which can be varied with different layers, colours and types of card for the die-cuts - just right for Cword cards ;)

Here's my card for today - back to using the new Memory Box dies I've bought this year in the hope of "cracking" the Cword card-making campaign!  I think it's quite pretty - but I wish I'd used a scalloped die for the outer edge of the red section so will give that a try next time

Materials and Tools:

Smooth white card blank

Red Bazzill card, Smooth White card for wreath, 
Red glitter card for baubles, Silver glitter card for punched snowflakes and stars,
 Red thread to hang the baubles,
 Red and Silver gems (Anitas)
Decal sticker sentiment (home-made)
