At the Beach

Welcome to my little crafting place! 

It's Daring Cardmakers Day again and this week it's our lovely Miri setting 

the challenge.

  At the Beach
This week's host,  Miri says:
I really miss the sea/beach!  

So please take us to the sea this week and add anything beach or

 sea related to your card. 

Some ideas:are beach huts, surfboards, bikinis, sand castles, waves etc.

 

 

If you scan back through my recent blog posts you'll see that this has been a recurrent theme, so I had quite a bit of suitable stash already near at hand!  

 So I had a bit of fun using mainly things already printed, ready made, cut out, or just not put away yet.

 

Digital and hand cut elements;

Ice cream cones, gold starfish

Wax twine, real shells, fish charm, torn corrugated card

 

 Its such a lovely and enjoyable way to make a card; just gathering bits and pieces and using what you have to hand to make a collage.  I love doing things like this!

Pack Your Bags

Welcome to my little crafting place! 

It's Daring Cardmakers Day again and this week it was my turn to set the challenge.

 

Pack Your Bags

Please feature some kind of bag on your card this week.  
Shopping bags, Paper bags, Evening bags, Beach bags,Holdalls, Party bags, Suitcases... Add any kind of bag in any way you like!
You could even make a bag-shaped card

  In the end I decidied to make a gardening tool bag. It has three layers each separated with a little matchbox 'hinge' so that I could add tmy die cuts berween the layers but still fold it flat to go in an envelope

 

The first attempt was way too big so I cut it down - I used my nesting circles dies and partially cut for the shape

Once the bag pieces were cut I added the little hinges, then made the pockets for the fron.  These are made by exactly  the same method as the hinges., I just punced part of a circle from the top of each before gluing them togeother and adding to the bag.

I have a few die sets with garden implements so I've used various of them to cut out the tools etc.

The background is from a digital download, resized to fit then printed and cut out 'fussy' style with scissors.  I used mousse to colour the base card to match then adhered the printed piece in place.

The seed packets are also from a digital download in the same way, then glued together in a 'bundle' and popped into the pocket

June Glimmer of the Month Club

  Hello!

Welcome to my little crafting place!

I've used sentiments from Spellbinders' June Glimmer of the Month Club on most of my projects for the other clubs this month, but I really wanted to make a card where the sentiments are the main feature, so I came up with this retirement card

The sentiment at the bottom of the card is a full version of one of those that come on this lovely Glimmer plate, but I also decided to cut up some of those I made to make the words for the sign post. 

There were other phrases I could have made, but I wanted to stay with the retirement theme.  I made the sign post with some light brown card, adhered it on to one of my favourite digital background papers and just added a few bits of shrubby stuff cut from the bag of leafy things I always save for projects like this!

Its a really simple idea and can be adapted to use words from other Spellbinders Glimmer plates.  I'm thinking graduation or school leavers cards as well as for birthdays and cards themed for particular recipients

June's Die of the Month Club

Hello!

Welcome to my little crafting place!

This month the Spellbincers club kits have a beachy theme, and what's not to love about that!

The Small Die of the Month club is cute and quirky and full of fun.

Card 1

There's a variety of jolly creatures all ready to enjoy the pool or the waves, but for my first card I used the Dancing Ice-ream cones!

I made three, and they are having a bit of a beach disco.  You've just got to love the way theyir little legs move when you move the card!

The sentiment is from the  June Glimmer of the Month set  

and I added some beads in ice-cream colours for the sprinkles

 

 

 

Card 2

 

 

For this card I covered both the inside and the outside with a fishy digital paper and cut a cicrle aperture for my Swimming Piggy to dangle in.

As well as the rubber ring duck there's a cute turtle too - I've made him up, but not actually used him yet.

Again the Hello Friend sentiment is another from the

 June Glimmer of the Month set

June's Wax Seal of the Month Club

Welcome to my little crafting place!

I've been having some fun with the Wax Seal from Spellbinders'

 June Wax Seal of the Month club!

This month it comes with a gorgeous aqua and gold wax bead mix which is definitely up my street

I starteed as I usually do and made a batch of seals just to get the 'feel' for it.  I used two furnaces so that I could heat a couple of spoonfuls (one gold, the other a mix of the aqua shades) of wax beads at a time

Then I got adventurous and had a go making more of a sunset look with other colours of wax and added highlights with white, gold and silver pens.

I've made a couple of cards so far and as the summer season goes on I think more will find their way onto my projects!

Card 1

I used one of the aqua mix seals, a matching shade of pearlised card, a piece of finely corrugated card and someaqua waxed twine as the background for this card.

The sentiment is from the  June Glimmer of the Month set  

To complete this card I made a little banner to go beneath the sentiment and added some coordinating pearls near the wax seal

 

Card 2

 

For this card I used a dull gold card blank and added a blue panel, then a curved reddish-pink for a wavw effect.

I added a few lengths of gold twine attached at the right side, then caught up under the 'sunset' seal. I just trimmed the ends at the left and left them loose

The little tassel was made with more of the gold twine.

Again the sentiment is one of those you get in the June Glimmer of the Month set

June Elemental Cahllenge

Still trying to catch up with crafting and blogging - I do have quite a few makes to share(!) but today is Daring Cardmakers Day  I've my card for the June Elemental Challenge to show you today

Here's hoping June will have less of the torrential showers, and more of the flowers and other summer delights!

For this month's elemental inspiration image I chose something quintessentially reflective of British summertime (come rain or shine!).

Yes, the seaside!

Choose 3 elements from the image to interpret on your card (remember the colours count as one element) and share your wonderful creations with us!

I recent;y bought a few sets of digtal papers with a seaside/nautical theme as I needed to decorate a new visitors book for our holiday rental flat in Southwold, so was happy to have another excuse to use them.  They are super-fab and as well as having background papers there are lots of clipart elements too.

So my card is a real hybrid with digital papers and elements, die cuts and 'real' things like charms, shells and twine

 

My three main elements are the yacht, anchor and lighthouse from the picture on the blue background, but the theme is obviously the same seaside one and I used a few different background papers including one like the blue striped one.

I resized and printed 3 pieces of paper to create the background, arranging and overlapping them until I was happy with the layout then adhering to my card base. 

 

 

 

 The lighthouse, beach hut and seagull are all clipart, resized and printed onto white card, then cut out, I added some chipboard nehind to add extra dimension

The anchor, seaweed, shells and the palm trees are die cut using

Coastal Escape View Etched Dies  

I added some tiny real shells, twine, a timy wooden fish and a pretty starfish enamelled metal charm and made a nautical style knor to the space at the top.

 I had such fun putting this together!, I hope you like it!

for the Boys

Another catch up post this time!  This one was for a Daring Cardmakers challenge a couple of weeks ago

 

Let's Hear it for the Boys!

It's Shabneez here and this week I thought we'd get our
thoughts together for some masuline card ideas, especially
as Father's Day is coming up!

I have several cards to make for May birthdays and most of them are of the masculine persuasion.  Along with many other card makers I always struggle with cards for men.  This year I Two of our nephews are policemen, so for one of them Recentlly I saw some pictures of hobby-themed gnomes and as I got a new gnome die for Christmas I decided to have a go at adapting it to make cards for those pesky menfolk!

We have 2 nephews who are policemen so for one of them I made PC Gnome and added a bike, completee with a 'flashing' blue light!

PC Gnome must have pulled someone over as he's already got his notebook and pencil out to take their number 

I thought I'd add a quick pic of Batsman Gnome and Striker Gnome.  I'll share their cards later
