Because Red is Her Favourite

My wonderful Aunt has spent the last few weeks in hospital so I wanted to make her a card to say we are thinking of her.  Red has always been her favourite colour, so it was definitely getting used on this card.

To begin I made the slatted square background, using a piece of glossy red card as the backing square then cutting the slatted square twice so I could lay one vertically and the other horizontally to make a chequerboard. 

After gluing those two layers together I used a circle die to cut a hole of about 2.5cms in the centre, I made a frame to secure the raw slatted edges with a couple of circle dies. The finished layered square was then adhered to a large custom-sized card blank.

 

Next I made the rose.  My plan had been to make a spray of different sized roses but I decided to make just one large one.  I used a large flower punch to cut the petals, then a leaf die set from Spellbinders to cut the leaves

The sentiment is also from an old Spellbinders set, it was cut in gold and matted onto white and red card. To complete this card I tied a red organza bow, and added some gold twine loops to match the gold sentiment

 My aunt isn't well, and if you read this, maybe you could send a prayer, or some get better wishes for her, I'd be so grateful

Snow People revisited

welcome to my crafting world - it doesn't always work the way I'd hoped, but its good to share anyway, isn't it?

This time I'm making a return visit to the wonderful October Small Die of the Month club set from Spellbinders. I still have a few of the little figures made up and ready to go so here are a couple more cards using them.  This time I decided to set them on Wintry backgrounds using some digital designs.

I love using dies, hot foil and other crafting treasures, but digital papers are another of my go-to supplies and they often get me out of a crafting 'hole'

I chose a couple of rather 'soft' snowy backgrounds for these so the die cuts are the main focus  

 

For the first card I thought I'd arrange the little child and the snowman in a cute Snowy Hug!

I gave each of the snowmen a different hat just free-cutting or using punches.  I think the bobble hat may have slipped a bit before I took the photo!

I finished them off with hot-foiled sentiments 

 

There are quite a lot of small pieces making up the little people so I taped all the pieces that make up the children together with washi tape, chose a selection of colours from the ColorWheel Cardstock Pack then cut all of the pieces from each of the colours.  Next I sorted the different shapes into a divided box to make it easier to put them all together

I made up a batch of the little guys - you can spot  the ones I've used for these cards among them.  That didn't use up all the die cuts so I could still make up some more

Stars

welcome to my little crafting place!

 I mentioned last time that I'd had a stroke of luck and found a pile of coloured cards from last year that Id already hot-foiled Glimmer sentiments directly onto.

 

The sentiments are so lovely that the cards don't need much more to make them ready to send.  I remembered this lovely little set of stars dies I got from Hunkydory a few years ago. I used them a lot that year so it's definitely time to give them another outing!

 I just layered them on different tyoes of gold and red card (mirror, glitter, matte) and used a couple on each card. I also bought a similar set of snowflakes so maybe I should get those out too!

Little pictures

welcome to my little crafting place!

For this next set of Christmas cards I used a similar method to that in the last blogpost, but this time I've gone for coloured card blanks.  I forgot to order the same card in 'flat' sheets so had to sacrifice a couple of each colour to do the hot-foling for the backgrounds and sentiments.  However, that's not so bad as you can make quite a decent number of cards this way!

 

I love this deep teal coloured card, and how lush it looks when you add silver or gold!

The deep blue of the card below is almost purple and looks great with silver.

I used an old stars Glimmer plate for the Teal card above left and October's Glimmer of the Month club plate with gold for theteal card above right, and with silver foil on the blue one below

The houses, tiny trees and the sleigh are from a couple of Simon Hurley's Christmas die sets from 2024 and 2023 - all are still available (links below)

Snowy Trees

welcome to my little crafting place!

I have some Christmas cards to share. I made this batch with a similar theme to try and get my card box a little more ready for the Christmas mailbox!

I started by getting out suitable Glimmer plates, those with snow and stars on to make the backgrounds.  The plates are all big enough for the resulting hot-foiled pieces to be cut down and made into several cards.  I started with dark blue card, white foil and a snowflake plate from a few years ago

 

I cut squares and circles from the same white card as the card blanks. 

 Some were made into frames, some just  cut larger than the foiled shapes. Next I matted them onto something shiny and added them to the cards.

I then had a die cutting seeion and cut loads of different smaller trees and holly. Its amazing just how many there are in my die collection! They were added to the little backgrounds, hot-foiled sentiments were added and whatever other trims to jolly them up; twine, gems, punched stars

The card below is slightly different as I spied a scrap of black card on my desk the perfect size to use with this frame.  I hadn't done and foiling on black, but my white pen was handy so I just covered the black with tiny white dots instead.

Wrist Purse

welcome to my little crafting place! 

Today I'm sharing this card using Spellbinders Glimmer of the Month and Wax Seal of the Month  clubs for November. The pretty chain design reminded me of some of those posh designer bags, so I made this little wristlet purse card - the kind you might keep your phone in because they've all got too darned big for our pockets! 

And yes, that is me having another little rant!

I used gold foil on the white 'flap' section and the lovely Blush foil that comes with this month's club kit on (111) Sicily' card from the Colourwheel collection for the larger section.

 

 For the 'clasp' I used one of the seals I made with the November Wax Seal of the Month

along with the Coral mix Must Have Wax Beads that you get this time.

 I used white wax (with glitter as explained in my last post) for the upper layer and a couple of each colour from the Coral mix, plus a gold bead  for the lower marbled layer

To finish this seal I coloured the bow with  an Edding Gold Glass Pen 

 

The sentiment is also from the Glimmer set, and the little champagne flute charm is from the November Small Die of the Month club 

I attached the chain with a staple  

This card could easily be made into a pocket card, for enclossing a voucher or gift card

A Most Eggs-cellent Day (with video

welcome to my little crafting place! 

November's Die of the Month from Spellbinders is all about Doing Brunch and features some very cute  characters! Although there are a few ready made sentimet dies, this set is definitely ripe for some imaginative puns of your own and I couldn't resist making one for a Dancing Fried Eggs card!

 

I used just the cute fried egg from the November Small Die of the Month club die set and added a little spiral wire spring behind each one before adding the my card. This simple mechanism means that if you flick one with your finger it will 'dance' merrilly!

My "Hoping your day is most eggs-cellent" message adds a pun to the fun!  It was created on my pc and just printed out in the size I needed and added to the card
