It's a Generation Thing

 Hello

Welcome to my little crafting place!

Its a Spellbinders Monthly Club day today and this time my project uses the fabulous April Small Die Club set.  Its a stitching themed set with words that can be used on their own or highlighted by stitching through the little holes, but I was inspired by the old embroidery floss box that was mum's, and I have in my craft space because you never know when you might need a bit of embroidery thread!

This is such a cute die set, the skeins are about 'life size' and the little black and gold wrappers are just the perfect finishing touch.

Mum's box is pretty stuffed with embroidery skeins and also some tapestry yarn so another box will take the strain off what must be almost an antique!
I started by making a box roughly the same size as Mum's original one and covering it with some white card printedwith a digital linen look sesign, The thin, extra layer of card gives more stability to
the finsihed box

Next step was cutting and assembling the pieces for the skeins in lots of different colours. I'd made quite a lot before deciding to stick to variations of just one colour!  So I do have quite a lot spare to make other things with!

And finally, here are 3 generations of stitching 'stuff' - my pin cushion, thimble and the new thread box, my mum's threads box full of her skeins of embroidery threads and my Grandma's darning mushroom!

I studied needlework/dress at A level and the course covered every  kind of stitching you can imagine, dress design, pattern-making as well as garment making, so I do actually 'know' quite a lot about all that stuff, including how to darn.
Not that I've actually done any such thing since making my sample book!
