how has you week been? The weather has been horrible on our side of the country - rainy, windy and so cold we had to turn the heating up again and go back to the thicker duvet. Not funny - especially as I keep reading about how lovely it is in more westerly parts of the UK.
Anyway, Sharon cheered me up a bit with her Daring Cardmakers challenge this week as it gave me
"...... as it's the first Friday in the month that can only mean one thing - our monthly elemental inspiration pic.
Please choose 3 elements from the pic as the inspiration for your card
(suggestions: colour palette, ribbons, cactus, plant pots, geometric shapes, metallic tape, bricks, balloons....)"
Info:
I made a stencilled background using Mini Kaleidoscope (Crafters Workshop) stencil and an aqua ink (Colourbox Cats Eyes), leaving a lot of the space white
Replacing
the stencil I rubbed on PVA glue in some areas, and working quickly
removed and cleaned the stencil then added some leafing foil in copper
to the still-tacky areas.
Once completely dried, I used a stiff paintbrush to remove any unwanted copper foil
Having cut down the stencilled piece to the right size for the card blank, I used a brick pattern embossing folder (Darice) just on parts of the white space in the corners., then inked all around with various shades of aqua ink
The
balloons are either die-cut, punched or hand-cut circles and ovals,
inked with various shades, then some were given a layer of Glossy
Accents (Ranger) and some left plain.
I didn't have the right colour twine for the strings, so I inked that to match too
The sentiment is a tiny home-made decal sticker (Crafty Computer Paper), the white and copper card tags are hand-cut
I actually made two background pieces using the same techniques and materials just to make sure I got something I could work with once it was all dried. Using these foils is a bit tricky and messy and I didn't want to have to get them out again because it went wrong!
Here's Sharon's wonderful Inspiration Picture - there's loads of stuff in there to choose your elements from, and you can see how the DT responded HERE
That's me done for this time, I hope you'll leave a message - it's always good to know you're not talking to yourself ;)
Thank s for visiting
Talking to yourself is a good way to get responses that suit ;o) Love the combination of aqua with the shiny copper and the bouquet of balloons looks really happy!
ReplyDeleteLove the background Kathy - great card. It's been miserable weather down south too :(. Shabneez xxx
ReplyDeleteLovely card Kathy. The challenge sounds interesting, Is it open for entries for four weeks?. Oh, and I have another question ... What method do you use to just get embossing in a few selected areas? TIA?
ReplyDeleteJanet, the Daring Cardmakers challenges are weekly, every Friday a new one to play with ;)
ReplyDeleteFor this one I just tucked the corner of the background piece into an embossing folder - it's only one of the small folders, and I have an ebosser that takes A5 stuff so I had room on the platform to have the piece of card 'hanging' out of the folder.
fabulous design and gorgeous card Kathy
