It's been Jo's turn to set the dare this week over on The Daring Cardmakers Blog. She sent us to the kitchen to get out those rolls of aluminium foil- which I'm sure is known by other names in other parts of the world but we hope you'll all get the idea of what we're talking about!
I decided that this might be a good opportunity to dig out the Alcohol Inks and get messy. I've never really got to grips with the things to be honest, but I keep trying in the hope that one day I'll realise why people rave about them. So convinced am I that everyone else must be right that I've even bought a couple of new colours to play with - or maybe I'm just bonkers. Problem is - it's just sooooo much mess for so little reward! Tim Holtz has nothing to worry about from me, that's for sure.
Anyway I donned gloves and even my new "Domestic Goddess" pinny and set to work.
This is the bunch of bits I ended up with after spending an hour or so inking and embossing.
I used the hearts to make my card. I stuck the foil onto card, used the Cuttlebug to cut out the hearts and inked them with 2 or 3 alcohol inks. Next I embossed them with the Swirls embossing folder. Thing is, I tend to get carried away when I start playing like this....so before long I'd got the embossing powder and heat gun out and added a couple of laters of UTEE. Not content with that I decided that I could enhance the colours with some gorgeous embossing powder that Net had sent me samples of a couple of years back - I can't remember who makes them, but Net on Bex's forum will be able to help out I'm sure!
In the end I made this card, using my new BG Two Scoops paper pad
I used another piece of Swirl embossed foil covered card to mount the greeting piece on, and kept the swirlt theme going by cutting into the swirl patterns on the pink paper so that I could just tuck the plainer message piece under them. I still feel there's something missing from this card but I'm not sure how to finish it off.
I also used brads from my stash and some gorgeous velvet ricrac from Bea's fabby Ribbon Oasis - which incidentally has just has a facelift - I love the new Springlike colours on there, nice one, Bea!
I suppose I should see if I can come up with any ideas for the rest of that mutilated foil - it's not going to be much use for covering food anymore, is it?
I had some wonderful news last Saturday - a text from fabby DCM-er Saffa to say that she'd given birth to her much-awaited twin girls earlier that morning. Huge congratulations to Saffa, Hubby and young Ibrahim too and a big welcome to Zaynab and Tasneem - let the Pink-Fest begin.........
Pop along to the blog to check out the other "Foiled" cards, and read what you need to do to be in with a chance of winning a prize from Paper Pesto
I've got more things to share, but I'll save them for next time - maybe I'll actually get in the habit of blogging more often, because I've been really bad recently!
Ooooh good job I went back on this to add links before posting. Apart from typing "folied! and "foli" almost every time, I'd only gone and written "The Daring Cardmakers Blob" aswell!
Wow its brilliant. Gorgeous card. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI love it Kathy. The blue hearts really 'pop' as our friends over the water would say.

Looks good to me! I like the way you've cut the swirls to overhand the message panel - nice touch!
ReplyDeletethis is such an incredible card Kathy. I think all your ink samples look good. However I do wish you hadn't used two scoops paper as I had decided I was NOT going to buy any. Until I saw your blog...
ReplyDeleteIt's a really lovely card. The colour of the hearts are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant Kathy. I don't know why you think you can't use alcohol inks - the hearts look great. Off to have a nosy at Ribbon Oasis. Lol x
ReplyDeleteJust catching up a bit on what I've been missing - gorgeous things from you, as ever. So glad to hear Saffa's news.
ReplyDeleteThis card is lovely Kathy. Not tried the alcohol inks myself. Are they that scary? LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous card! You have given me inpiration to get some inks and have a 'play around'!

Pretty card! I'm with you. Don't really get those inks. Maybe I need to look them up online and get some tutorials or play with them more. I don't really get it.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS card Kathy !!
ReplyDeleteDid you receive my Christmas card ?
Did you know if you ink the foil, emboss it and then run the Stazon ink pad over the top it removes some of the ink and you get a much more prounouned effect? Love what you have done btw!!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, what a stunning card!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card and love all your samples with the foil and inks, yummy!
ReplyDeleteI loved this when I saw it, and ran out of time when it came to commenting. However, I must now because I used it as my inspiration for the midweek challenge. Thank you!
