A Greek Urn

 Welcome to my little crafting place! 

I've another Spellbinders project to share using the Fresh Pickred Vase Bouquet dies from from April's Miore Fresh Picked collection and a sneaky bit of embossing using the Leafy Helix folder from the Propagation Garden collection

I know they call it a 'vase' on the details, but it screamed Greek Urn to me, so there's where I went with this!

If you ever visit a really old Greek village you will see almost every house will have some kind of planter outside filled with bright geraniums or other showy flowers! Often they'll just be old olive oil cans painted blue or red or yellow - as long as that paint is bright!

 I absolutely loive to see these streets.

 

For my card I decided to evoke beautiful Greece by using a digital download image as the backdrop.  I printed it directly onto a sheet of card then folded it to create my card blank. My idea was for the image to be in the distance with a big urn full of bright flowers in the foreground.

I inked up some 80gsm thin white card on both sides with shades of yellow and orange, plus more in green for the stems and leaves. There are some really cute flower shapes in this set and you also get plenty of leaves, stems, flower centres and of course that gorgeous vase/urn!

I assembled my bouquet, being sure to check the stems would all fit in the neck of the vase!
Next I inked some card to look as much like terracotta as I could, and cut out the vase shape beofre putting it the embossing folder (if you do the embossing first you squash it while cutting the vase shape).and running through the machine
Next I swooshed a copper coloured ink pad over the embossing
and added some bits of chipboard to the reverse to give some dimension before adhering the vase in place 

To finish I added a pc generated sentiment.

Leafy Helix Embossing with Added Daisies!

 Welcome to my little crafting place! 

This time I've another Spellbinders project to share using a couple of items from the April collections

The embossed background is made using Leafy Helix Embossing Folder from the Propagation Garden Collection by Annie Williams.  I sprayed the card with water before putting it into the embossing folder and running through my machine.  Even though the card was 360gsm, so quite thick it embossed beautifully.  I swiped a couple ofdifferent shades of green ink pads over while it was still on the base of the folder to add some colour

I coloured the card blank with blue ink and mousse. before adhering the embossed section iin place

 I made the daisies using 80gsm white card, colouring the centres firs with yello ink before assing the die cut centres

The leaves were cut from white card inked to match that used on the embossing

The little hanging sign is a pc generated sentiment.

Daisy Planter

 Welcome to my little crafting place! 

This time I've a new Spellbinders project to share using dies from the More Fresh Picked Collection.

This time I decided to go 3D and made a mini Garden Planter with daisies and leaves from the Fresh Picked Daisies die set

 I made a simple box and lid from some brown card and added some slits in the top section so that I could insert the stems and leaves. 

I printed out a wood digital paper onto white card and cut it to make the back of the planter and also to wrap around the box section when all the daisies had been 'planted'

Gluing a couple of the stem/leaf pieces together gave the stability for them to stand up. quite well, but to make sure they wouldn't flop over I also added little 'box hinges' between the 2 rows of plants and also between the back row and the 'wooden' back section

I inked some 80gsm paper on both sides and cut the flowers, adding some deeper pink in the middle and then the die cut flower centres in an even deeper shade

These were then adhered to the srems.

To complete the planter I used a small circle punch to create a fluted edge on a strip oif the weeod effect card then glued it in place covering the 2 sections of the base box and it was done

A Cardmaker's Cake Recipe!

Welcome to my little crafting place! 

 

Today is Friday, so its Daring Cardmakers Day and it was my toru to set the challenge this week

I ended up making 2 cards butwasn't particularly happ with either.  We've been doing this challenge thing for a very long time, and most of our team, past and present will agree that your own challenge is always the hardest to make sonething for! 

Weird, isn't it?

A Cardmaker's Cake Recipe!
If you made a cake you would use eggs, sugar, butter and flour
My challenge is a twist or 'play on words' of those ingredients; I've just substituted crafty elements for butter, sugar etc.

Ingredients

Flower(s)
the colour Yellow   
Glitter or other 'tiny sprinkly' stuff  
Oval shape, a bird, a nest, or something else egg related

You may also add 2 other 'ingredients' of your choice

Method

Mix well and add your own creative magic 

It doesn't have to be a cake!

So, anywaytoday I'll show you the card I probably like best of the two, and share the second one another time. 

 

The butter (yellow stripes) was creamed together with the sugar (there are stripes of glitter on the white section) until light and fluffy

I beat in the eggs (oval wreath made using a die cut edged with leaves)

Then I folded in the flour (Peony flowers) and baked till golden!

Once baked I sprinkled more 'sugar' on the leaves and edges of the petals

My 'extra ingredients were the other colours and the extra leaves

Nuvo mousse for the blue oval and to colour the paper the petals are cut from

 I love peonies, and this week the first one opened up - which is probably why I went for peonies for this card!

I thought I'd share a photot as its so beautiful.  It's probably a bit sad by now as it's not stoped raining since it appeared!

Mixology Maybe?

Welcome to my little crafting place! 

This time I've another card using dies from one of the new April collections:  Propagation Garden Collection by Annie Williams/

This time I just used three of the containers from the Laboratory Glassware 

I used the cute jar from the set on a card I shared earlier

I thought I'd see if these worked for a generic celebratory card - it could be for a budding chemist, someone celebrating exam success or maybe for someone who just loves mixing cocktails!

I used ink and pearly mousse on smooth white card then cut out the pieces I needed to build up the various shapes - I love the detail of the measurement scale on the side of the jars! 

Once I'd assembled all the jars and adhered them to my card base I used my multi-sized hole punch to cut 'bubbles' from spare card. I added drops of Glossy Accents to those then added the pc generated sentiment and some coloured 'pebbles'  to echo the bubbles

You can't have too many bubbles!

Daisy, Daisy

Welcome to my little crafting place! 

 

Today is Friday, so its Daring Cardmakers Day and I'm actually managing to post on the right day.  If not exactly early...

This week Joanne is sending us round in circles - which, to be fair is my regular state of mind!

Joanne here this week and I’d like to see 

circles 

You might use circles as a design element, frame a focal point with a circle, stamp an object that contains circles (bikes have wheels, clock faces, dream catchers etc).

Its been a while since I made a Circle card and they are fun to make - its all about getting the balance right so that when they stop rolling they are the right way up! For this one, it was easy - I just added more leafy sprigs until it was right!

As it happened I had a circle already cut from a piece of card embossed with the new Leafy Helix embossing folder, and I also had spares of the pink and white daisies I'd been using on other projects.  The sentiment was from a set I'd made and printed in a 'useful' shade of green that seems to work with lots of projects!

 

I used a circle die to cut the base card then added the flowers and sentiment. I cut out one each of the leafy dies and cut them into pieces, then tucked them amongst the flowers, standing the card up every now and then to check whether it was correctly balanced.

We're Rooting For You

Welcome to my little crafting place! 

I've been working with some of the brand new April releases from Spellbinders during the last few weeks so will be sharing what I've made over the next few days.

One of the new collections is the Propagation Garden Collection by Annie William, and honestly, I was so happy to get my hands on these dies - they are just so cool! 

 First up is this card using some of the little plants from the

 Propagation Plants set 

and the cute jar from
 Laboratory Glassware 

I love the layers on the leaves and especially the roots in the 'water' - how cute is that?

 I just couldn't resist a pun for the sentiment - just perfect for a good luck card!

I inked up a sheet of white card on both sides using several green inks so that there was plenty of colour variation tand choice for where to place the dies. This meant I could cut the leafy shoots for the Lucky Bamboo stems on a really pale piece - I used to have some of these years ago. 

For the jars I inked up after cutting from white card.  I added some light blue mousse fot the jars and their outlines, and a swoosk of an aqua shade of ink for the water. 

Once I'd assembled all the jars and plants (adding dimension with tiny bits of foam where I could) I adhered them to my card base and added the pc generated sentiments

Finally I gave the 'water' a coat of Glossy Accents and crossed my fingers that it would dry without going messy!
